A winter's fairy tale is the best way to describe Mark and Kate's wedding last December.
Their ceremony and reception were held in the stunning Village at Lyons, Co. Kildare, and Kate looked like a Christmas Princess alongside Mark, her Prince Charming.
We battled typical winter weather all day, but it simply added to the coziness of the venue with its roaring fires and fairy lights. The pair decided to do a first look just the two of them (and their photographer of course) before the start of the ceremony to avoid any nerves and to have a special moment to themselves.
Then it was time to start their beautiful ceremony to the soundtrack of rain drops on the conservatory glass, followed by a delicious country meal which lead into a lively reception full of mulled wine and a cake table to die for!
Who proposed to whom?
Mark:
"Kate had made a remark that stuck with me for a long time, ‘If you made me a lemon meringue pie I would marry you’. She was joking of course, but when I decided I was going to pop the question it seemed like the perfect throw away remark to incorporate into my proposal. The day of the proposal I left early and at my parents’ house, I set about making my pie. My family knew what I was doing so there was a great feeling of excitement in the house!
Later that evening, I drove Kate out to Portmarnock beach with my pie hidden in my back pack and a stand-in engagement ring which I had bought a few days earlier sitting in the glove box.
We embarked on what Kate will now tell you was the longest walk on the beach we have ever had. I kept waiting for the perfect moment to present her with the little cake box and pop the question, but every time I built up the courage people would pass by, until eventually Kate got so tired she suggested turning back and I had no choice but to go for it!"

What made you choose your ceremony and reception locations?
Kate:
"The Village at Lyons was the first venue we viewed and, after that, nowhere else seemed right for us. We wanted a cosy, relaxed venue, and the La Serre conservatory was perfect for our ceremony too. The decor was perfect for a winter wedding, and we knew everyone would just be blown away by it!"
What was your favorite moment from the wedding day?
Kate:
I really enjoyed the ceremony. The rain was pelting down on the conservatory roof and it was very atmospheric! It was quite a small space so it felt like all our guests were really close and involved.
Mark: My favorite moment was seeing Kate for the first time on the day. It was such a busy morning and seeing Kate looking so beautiful in her dress was such a special moment for me.
What would your words of wisdom be to any engaged couples out there planning their wedding?
Mark & Kate
"Don’t listen to anyone else’s advice!"

What was your first dance song and why?
It was “It’s All About You” by McFly. It’s a sweet, upbeat, romantic song that really suited the tone of the day, and everyone got up to have a dance!

How would you sum up the experience of having Blackbird Boulevard photograph your wedding?
Both Janet and Aoife were excellent on the day! They were so relaxed and professional which helped us both feel very at ease. Our guests loved getting their individual photos taken, and Janet and Aoife caught loads of little, natural moments between our guests. We said from the beginning that we didn’t want formal, stoic wedding pictures and the girls definitely delivered!
